Our Story

In the spring of 2003, tooled with vast imagination, vision, minimal budget and considerable amounts of manual labour in wet boggy conditions – Murphy’s Tree Farm started very humbly planting its first rows of Christmas trees. The goal during those times was to turn the raw property into some organized fields without completely removing all of the natural habitat. This was a delicate task but has enhanced the property and what would later be known as Murphy’s Tree Farm.

In 2014, Murphy’s Tree Farm finally opened to the public with no social media platforms only a few physical signs at the road. Ryan Murphy recalled that winter as the key; “Though we only sold a couple dozen trees that first year, my take away was that it was a great experience. People that came really enjoyed the space that was provided. They’ve enjoyed the quality of the trees since they were from my first generation of trees. People were thanking us for opening up our farm.” Murphy recalls many of those original families have been coming back every year since and have seen the trees and improvements that were made on the farm through the years.

The property, which is now a sustainable running farm has stayed true with the original vision. Aside from the festive Christmas experience at the Maple Ridge farm, Murphy’s have been growing and expanding at another location. This expansion has provided the opportunity to grow the nursery trees, produce and field grown stock. Since 2014, the fruit orchard and raspberries along with premium red hard-neck garlic have been growing for the u-pick experience.

  • In 2021, Murphy had opened to the public during the summer and early fall. U-pick and custom orders are harvested at the Pitt Meadows location for no-spray apples and raspberries and has been a “go to” for many people. Murphy’s Tree Farm and Orchard have helped provide great experiences and products to many families. They hope to continue working hard for that vision and supply local BC families to continue their family tradition.
